Homemade,
from South Tyrol
… at the Restaurant Turmwirt
in Gudon, in the Isarco Valley
Chef Maria always prefers to serve up homemade meals. Alongside our homemade pasta dishes and ice cream, our guests particularly adore our homemade breads, served fresh from the oven. And when the season permits, our juices and grappas are also homemade. The authentic tavern cuisine is based on recipes which have been passed down through the generations, using ingredients which are, whenever possible, sourced from local farms – one of which is right next door.
A glass of good wine,
in good company
Where hospitality and culture
have shaped the life of generations
We celebrate the joy of good wine here at the Turmwirt, and stock some of the very best wines from vineyards near and far in our cellar. But it’s the Isarco Valley wines that really grab the attention of Maria, the landlady: Take a sip for yourself, and savour the harmonious balance of tastes. On the terrace and in the age-old Stube parlour, the glasses clink in time with the welcoming hospitality of this locale, infused with five generations of family history and all the people who have come and gone over the years.
Just like a holiday
South Tyrolean history with a view, near Chiusa
The Sommo Castle to one side, and parish church on the other: The historic Restaurant Turmwirt is located in Gudon village centre, and looks out onto the mountains and villages. Located in a sunny, peaceful spot with masses of space out front, the restaurant is just two km from the Chiusa motorway exit and is the ideal place to enjoy a mouthwatering culinary stop-off, particularly for families with children: There are no dangerous roads, just meadows, rocks and gentle hills where kids can play in safety and a shady spot under the chestnut tree for their parents.

Sunday roast in the South Tyrolean inn
Enjoy a special Sunday tradition and sit down together for a much-loved Sunday roast. Indulge in the finest local meats, expertly prepared at a Südtirol Gasthaus restaurant.
Sundays once carried a very special scent. Returning home from church or arriving at your grandparents’ house, you would find the wonderful aroma of a sizzling roast filling every room, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. In those days, meat was precious and usually only served on special occasions like Sundays and holidays. Sunday meals were also a time to socialise and strengthen family bonds. The traditional roast was not just a dish but stood for much more: it symbolised home, family and warmth.
Today, our Südtiroler Gasthaus member restaurants keep this cherished tradition alive with the Sunday roast special. From January to March, they recreate this beloved family ritual, using only regional, seasonal ingredients and locally sourced meats, just as in the past. Whether you order a roast, Sundays in South Tyrol are a unique culinary experience, making it one of the most anticipated days of the week!
By the way, our “insriGs” signature beer pairs perfectly with a hearty Sunday roast or stew. Have you tried it yet?
